So it has been one year since I have written anything in this blog. I stopped for a couple reasons. First, the typical reason to not do anything,"I'm just too busy". Second, no one to my knowledge, ever read anything that I wrote, so why write. Well I have found that it is some what therapeutic. It's nice voicing my frustration and if someone would like to comment that would be great. Could some one benefit from what I might say, doubtful, but I'll just keep talking because sometimes it just feels good. So here I go just keeping on talking......
I'm the Tech Team Leader at my local church and for the past few months I've been looking at presentation software to buy. I spent time trying out demo versions and what not. So I ended up buying some software arrogantly thinking that it was the primo top of the line stuff. While gloating in my pool of arrogance I figured my problems were over. I get this stuff installed,, bata boom bata bing a problem free presentation for Sunday morning. After an extraordinary large piece of humble pie, which included a video with no sound and media transitions that were not there but were there, and alot of hair pulling, teeth grinding hours I realized this is going to be harder than I though. I failed to remember the all knowing truth that technology is great and the user of the technology is usually the problem. In this case the user with new software that hasn't spent enough time using it to really know the ins and outs of it. Backing back out to reality now I see that the software purchased is not the problem but my expectations. Hopefully I'll learn that my expectations are not always going to come to fulfillment. I do have to admit that now that I'm starting to understand the software and that my expectations are basically gone I finding it quite powerful and really cool stuff.
